What I learnt from 6 cans of beetroot

On the weekend, I finally cleaned out my pantry and realised:

– I am not, in fact, the domestic goddess I imagined.

– I owned six cans of beetroot.

Here’s the problem:

I couldn’t see what I already had.

I kept buying more “just in case”.

I was hanging onto things I was never going to use (including about thirty tatty cookbooks that have survived multiple house moves but rarely inspired a meal!)

And the pantry “system”?

There wasn’t one.

I had things that annoyed me every day like a bread bin that screeched as the clutter beside it kept collapsing onto it every time I wanted to make some toast.

So I cleared the lot.

Anything out of date, random, annoying or “maybe one day” ? Gone.

I only kept what I actually use.

Then I organised it in a way that made it a joy to use.

Now I can open the pantry and instantly see what I’ve got, what I need, and what I 100% do not need more of.

Your recruitment business is probably running on “pantry mode” too.

Clients you haven’t spoken to in months, sitting there like old tins at the back of the shelf.

A database full of candidates you paid to acquire… but can’t see clearly enough to leverage.

Tools, subscriptions, “clever” processes and half-built automations that squeak every time you try something simple.

And because you can’t see it clearly, you keep buying more

More job boards

More tools and tech

More “quick fixes”

Instead of clearing it out, cleaning it up and using what you already have.

Imagine your business like my “after pantry”.

Set up with intention.

Everything in its place.

Only the systems, tools and clients that genuinely serve you.

It’s funny, I’d been putting off cleaning my pantry for months until it was literally doing my head in.

But once I finally got in there, it didn’t take me long to sort out and now instead of draining me every time I walk in, it feels light and weirdly satisfying.

So… this month why not pick one thing in your world that isn’t serving you.

And fix it or ditch it.

And create a business you enjoy walking into every day.

What I’m missing as a domestic goddess I make up for in business smarts, so if I can help you get out of the chaos and set up well to win in 2026 reply, and we can have a chat.

Cheers,

BK

PS Can spot the beetroot 🙂
