Is this the biggest AI win in recruitment?

Most recruitment founders I speak to spend a huge chunk of their week sourcing and screening.

It keeps the fires burning, for sure.

But it often comes at the expense of higher-value work. Time with clients, strategy, hiring, training (yourself and others), and building the business you set out to create.

Research suggests sourcing and screening eats around 40–44% of a recruiter’s time. For most solo recruiters and small agency founders, I’d say it’s still close.

Sourcing is the most repetitive part of your week. And the most replaceable.

So, if you’re wondering where AI can make the biggest impact in your business…

I’d start here.

Not by cutting corners or compromising on quality, but by using AI and tech to streamline the repetitive parts of sourcing while leaving the human judgement exactly where it belongs.

Imagine buying back even one day a week to spend on the work that actually grows your business.

I don’t think this is a new conversation for you, but maybe you’re wondering where to start?

One thing I’ve noticed, the founders getting the most out of AI don’t try to automate everything at once. They start with sourcing, because that’s where the time goes, and they solve one bottleneck at a time.

Before you look at another shiny tool, ask yourself:

  • Where does the most time disappear in my sourcing?
  • Which tasks am I repeating every single day?
  • Which parts genuinely don’t need my judgement or expertise?

Start with the one that would buy back the most time. Then assess tools against that, not against everything they can do.

Most sourcing technology falls into three broad categories:

  • Sourcing engine – finds the right people
  • Data enrichment – fills in contact and other details
  • Outreach – helps you engage them

You’ll probably discover you don’t need ten new AI tools.

You just need one or two that solve your biggest sourcing bottlenecks, the discipline to learn them properly and build them into the way you work.

Choose AI/tech tools that remove friction from your specific sourcing workflow. Not just the ones that worked for a mate. Every recruitment business is different.

Get one win.

Bank the time.

Then solve the next sourcing bottleneck.

That’s how founders gradually buy themselves back a day (or more) every week.

So, is this the biggest AI win in recruitment?

I think it is.

Your most precious resource is time. Sourcing is taking up most of it. And the tools are at your fingertips.

Have a great week.

PS. I’ve been working on something behind the scenes that I’m really excited about. If saving time with AI and making smarter tech decisions is on your radar, I think you’re going to like what’s coming early July.
