Busy, stuck, or winning? Let’s take control 💪

It’s the last week of January… how are your goals coming along?

Are you smashing them, or are you still figuring out what day it is? 😅

I’m always surprised how many people roll into their day, coffee in hand, and just… start working.

Sometimes they don’t even think about what they should be doing.

They’re just busy being busy.

These are the people who check emails every five minutes, waiting for a magic placement to appear.

They’re reactive instead of proactive, letting the day run them instead of running the day.

It’s easy to get pulled in a million directions, especially now with so many distractions.

Here’s a simple, practical way to take control.

  1. Clarity first

STEP 1

Pick up to 3 clear goals for the next 3 months.

Use SMART goals – specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound.

If someone else read them, they should know exactly whether you hit them.

Example: Bill $100K in revenue from 6 new clients in 3 months.

STEP 2

Break that goal into monthly milestones.

  • Month 1: Map 200 potential clients and decision-makers (don’t do this yourself – outsource it). Plan a high-value content piece.
  • Month 2: Deliver your content. See who’s hiring.
  • Month 3: Follow up, pitch, and take on 6 new roles.

STEP 3

Fill in weekly actions for each milestone.

Month 1 example (connect with 200 new contacts):

  • Week 1 – Build your contact list
  • Week 2 – Create a piece of value for your market-an interview, podcast, webinar, whatever adds value
  • Week 3 – Prep marketing collateral to promote your content
Week 4 – Send your content effectively

Focus on Month 1 first. Then Month 2. Then Month 3. One week at a time. At the end of 3 months, that $100K goal isn’t a dream-it’s your plan.

  1.  Urgent vs Important

Top performers spend 70% of their time on important but not urgent work.

Stop letting small urgent tasks eat into your big-picture growth.

Your future self will thank you.

  1. Consistency beats sporadic effort

Once you know the right actions, schedule them every week.

Don’t try a strategy for one week and forget it the next.

Give it time. Learn. Improve. Results come from consistency.

  1. Sharpen your saw

Invest in yourself.

There’s so much to learn online-don’t just stick to recruitment blogs.

Look at thought leaders like Seth Godin, Simon Sinek, Jay Abraham.

They’ll spark new ideas and help you get better, faster.

  1. Start as you mean to go on

We’ve all had clients say: “Do this at a reduced rate and I’ll use you next time.” Don’t fall into that trap. Clients like this rarely make you money.

Focus on clients whose values align with yours. They’ll be your long-term winners.

A small note before you go…

Don’t overwhelm yourself trying to do all five. Pick one that speaks to you and get it moving. That one step will give you a little more control over your day – and a lot more peace of mind.
